KÉKÉLI FARM

KÉKÉLI

Kékéli, meaning “light” in Ewe, one of Togo’s national languages, began in 2009 as a small family-owned cocoa farm in southwestern Togo, at the foothills of Mount Agou. Its ambition was simple: to produce high-quality cocoa while caring for the land and the people who depend on it.

Over time, this vision grew beyond the farm and led to the creation of SCOOPS Kékéli, a farmer cooperative bringing together local cocoa producers around shared commitments to quality, sustainability and community development.

Today, Kékéli Farm spans more than 60 hectares of cocoa plantations and remains the foundation of this wider initiative. Through SCOOPS Kékéli, we support farmers, strengthen local communities and promote sustainable agricultural practices throughout the region.

The cocoa produced by the members of SCOOPS Kékéli has been fair trade certified since 2019. Since 2025, this commitment has continued under the Fair for Life certification standard, covering the cooperative’s cocoa and its handling and export by HONLON from our warehouse in Kpalimé, Togo.

GROWING WITH NATURE

The future of cocoa depends on healthy ecosystems.

Our cocoa is cultivated under the shade of native trees through agroforestry systems that preserve biodiversity, improve soil health and help farms adapt to a changing climate.

By combining cocoa with diverse tree species and crops, we create resilient landscapes that protect the forests encircling Mount Agou while supporting long-term productivity for farming families. The rich organic matter created by the surrounding vegetation naturally nourishes the soil, contributing to the distinctive character and flavour of our cocoa.

From cultivation to fermentation and drying, every stage of production is coordinated through the facilities of SCOOPS Kékéli. This centralized approach ensures consistent quality while preserving and strengthening the expertise of our local farming community.

EDUCATION & COMMUNITY

As the founder and CEO of Kékéli Farm and Honlon respectively, Abra Benczédi grew up in the remote cocoa plantations of Togo, where access to education was limited and opportunities were scarce. Although she never had the chance to attend school, her journey inspired a clear vision: to transform cocoa farming from a means of survival into a sustainable and rewarding livelihood. By building ethical, profitable farms, she believes cocoa can become a source of opportunity that encourages young people to stay, invest in their land, and see agriculture as a future rather than a necessity.

To help make this vision a reality, Kékéli Farm established a school for the children of its workers and nearby villages, bringing education closer to families who once faced long distances and difficult circumstances.

The school also empowers women by giving them the opportunity to work and earn an income while their children are in a safe learning environment, fostering greater financial independence and helping build stronger, more resilient communities.
